Every group in the HGSI database has computed with it an index of the securities in that group. These indexes are computed on a fixed start date basis, using a number of user-specified choices with regard to filtering and weighting. HGSI group indexes act just like regular securities. They can be filtered, ranked, and charted. Indexes that are composed of other indexes roll up their computations. Fundamentals and earnings information are also rolled up. In addition to price & volume each day of the index, a number of statistics are computed, including:
- Number of advancing, declining and neutral issues
- Volume of advancing, declining and neutral issues
- Percent of the stocks in the index above their 20, 30, 50 and 200DMA
- Number of new 52-week highs and new 52-week lows
This out of band index data allows HGSI to compute ARMS and McClellan indexes for any group in our database, which includes the HGSI Industry Groups, as well as sectors, and of course any user created groups. This extra level of group analysis allows you to do true top down style stock investing, finding the strongest sectors and groups and then the strongest companies in those groups.
